Log Homes & Cabins:

Since there is no settling within the log walls of a CBI house constructed of laminated or Kiln-dried logs, all the horrific problems associated with a house built out of air-dried logs are gone. Homeowner headaches such as checking and chinking are history; yet all the benefits of warmth, comfort & performance of solid wood construction are retained. No ifs, ands, or buts; even the best premium grade solid wood logs milled from dead standing timbers twist, settle, shrink & crack. It is simply nature's way of relieving stress along the faultlines as the logs continue to dry over a long period of time; even many years after the construction of the house has been completed. You have no control of where & when the cracks in the logs begin to appear.

Some solid wood log companies hope to convince you that their "system" is the solution & to either:

  1. Let them sell you a simple two to four year old logs un-treated or pressure-treated with boric chemicals out of their huge lumber inventory.

  2. Let them air-dry the uncut de-barked pine or fir logs for your new log house in a shed or barn for two to four years (to "supposedly" get the moisture out) & then sawing the logs into square members for you to use in your new house; or

  3. Let them erect the shell of your house on their factory site for the first time, let it cure standing open to the elements for up to five years; then tear it down to ship to your building site to have you or your contractor rebuild it a second time, hoping that this process will somehow miraculously eliminate the inherent high moisture content problem.
