| California Custom Home Builders, Inc.
We are a small, privately-owned company that produces professionally designed, custom-built shell homes, standard ground floor & second or third-story pop-top additions, sunrooms, garages and more. Because we have no overhead or commissioned sales people, we design and build for much less than other local construction companies. As we have designed and constructed hundreds of projects, our quality is guaranteed!
State-of-the-Art Construction
Paul Chretien, a German-educated (Associate member of the AIA - American Institute of Architects - & who also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the School of Engineering & Architecture from the prestigious Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.), founded California Builders in 1976. Through his experience custom designing and building over 450 shell projects (homes & additions), he developed and refined a building process that combines the workmanship of yesteryear with the efficiency of state-of-the-art technology. In 1979 Chretien invented a portable “Panelization Factory” that uses the same tools used in standard panelization factories, such as air guns for framing and roofing and compound mitre box saws for precision cuts. Carpenters assemble and frame a wall panel up to 70 feet long complete with sub-siding installed in a horizontal position flat on a floor deck, which then can be easily erected on site by using specialized wall jacks as shown below.

| The specialized jacks begin lifting the wall in unison. If one worker is raising the wall, he moves from one jack to the other jack, avoiding excessive twisting of the wall. |
The specialized jacks remain in contact with the top edge of the wall during the entire lift. This operation usually takes only ten minutes to complete. |
When the wall reaches
the upright position, it is stopped and held firmly in place by the pre-set wall stops, which are adjustable. |
The “Panelization Factory” and specialized wall jacks move from job site to job site, which produces in many significant benefits:
- Reduced labor costs because only 2 men are needed to raise up to a 70’ long wall instead of six workers.
- Increased speed of construction since the wall panels are constructed flat on the floor deck on site
- Superior quality since panels are constructed in one unit rather than several component units.
