All CALIFORNIA BUILDERS homes are custom engineered and supervised by in-house personnel to meet or exceed the International Residential Codes (IRC) 2006 building codes with the customer’s needs, site conditions and budget in mind. To exceed the building requirements of various counties, CALIFORNIA BUILDERS provide the best available building services and materials including:
- Free Designer and Architectural Plans services by in-house architects and engineers - our plans are NOT sub-contracted out
- Free engineering services to overcome any requests or obstacles in the design
One-year complete structural warranty (from the foundation system thru the roof system).
- 2” x 4” stud construction in exterior and interior walls @ 16” on center, with ½” O.S.B. sub-siding
- 2x4 interior partitions (not 2x3 studs)
- Floor joists of solid wood are installed at 16” on-center that are far superior to bouncy truss floor system 24” on-center
- ¾” tongue and grooved plywood sub-flooring, glued and nailed
- ½” O.S.B. roof sheathing (installed with plywood clips)
- 2’ x 12 rafters @ 24” on center (R-38 value) and solid quadruple built-up L.V.L. ridge beams to prevent saggin for cathedral ceilings, with post and beam construction hidden in interior wall partitions standard
- Cathedral or flat ceilings installed (company option) instead of flimsy 2x4’ trusses
- Roof system that allows nine (11) inches of foil-faced ceiling insulation (R-38 value)

Today, CALIFORNIA BUILDERS constructs shell homes and second-story additions from Richmond to Baltimore & from the Eastern Share of the Chesapeake Bay to the Shenandoah Valley. We also work with associate local contractors to build fully finished turn-key homes. For customers outside the mid-Atlantic region, CALIFORNIA BUILDERS transports the shell home kit by truck to the job-site and erects it on the purchaser’s foundation.CALIFORNIA BUILDERS has projects of its latest designs under construction year round that you can visit to see for yourself the workmanship and quality that goes into every job. Affordable Quality
The CALIFORNIA BUILDERS price range is equally as broad. There are projects and kits ideal for first-time buyers as well as homes for families looking for more living space and added amenities. CALIFORNIA BUILDERS can arrange turn-key financing at conventional rates with commercial lenders. Lot payoff can be included with loan for construction and completion of shell home or addition. Temporary financing on shell homes or additions (not including land) is also available through our private investors for qualified customers.
The erected-shell generally starts at $ 60.oo per square foot. There is usually a 60 to 90 day wait between start of construction and delivery of the shell project including foundation to the customer. All materials are the customer’s responsibility after delivery to the site. Builder’s Risk Insurance is available and for the homeowner’s protection during the construction period. Our erected shells do not include lot clearing, septic or sewer system, water supply system, plumbing, heating or cooling, wiring, guttering, interior finish material or labor.
